Para celebrar el 45 aniversario del homónimo tercer disco de The Velvet Underground, el 24 de noviembre se pondrá a la venta una edición de lujo de seis CDs: “The Velvet Underground – 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition”. También estará disponible en CD sencillo y en un doble CD.
La reedición recoge, en el segundo CD, la denominada “The Closet Mix”, la mezcla que apareció en la primera tirada del álbum (definida por Lou Reed como “sin filtrar”), que luego fue sustituida por la del ingeniero Val Valentin, incluida en el primer CD de esta nueva edición. El tercer disco contiene una versión promocional en mono, mientras que en los CDs cinco y seis encontramos grabaciones en directo de 1969.
La novedad más interesante de esta edición está en el cuarto CD, en el que se recuperan las sesiones de grabación del que tenía que haber sido el cuarto álbum de The Velvet Undeground, grabado en octubre de 1969 para cumplir el contrato con MGM, pero que nunca llegó a ser editado (parcialmente fue recuperado en recopilatorios posteriores). Varias de sus canciones fueron grabadas para el siguiente álbum de The Velvet Underground, “Loaded”, y para los dos primeros discos de Lou Reed. El disco contiene diez mezclas inéditas.
