Fats Domino, uno de los grandes entre los grandes, tendrá su correspondiente álbum de homenaje con un elenco de colaboradores para caerse de espaldas. Nueva Orleáns ha sido un hervidero en los últimos meses para ir reuniendo en un mismo estudio de grabación a gente como Neil Young, Robert Plant, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty y Elton John, que con otros nombres ilustres han dado forma al doble disco que se llamará Goin’ home: A tribute to Fats Domino y saldrá a la venta el próximo mes de septiembre. El tributo incluye temas clásicos como «I want to walk you home», «Blueberry hill» y «Ain’t that a shame». Los beneficios que se obtengan del álbum serán donados a los programas de música de las escuelas públicas de Nueva Orleáns tras el desastre del huracán Katrina. Del que el propio Domino es un sobreviviente, ya que permaneció aislado en su casa durante horas y se temió por su vida hasta que pudo ser rescatado.
Domino, conocido como Fat Man y con 79 años a sus espaldas, donó buena parte de los ingresos de su último álbum, Alive and kickin’, editado en 2006. La Fundación Tipitina, que animó a Domino a grabar aquel disco, es ahora la encargada de hacer posible este trabajo que repasa la carrera musical de una de las figuras claves del insustituible R’n’B de New Orleáns.
